Experience and Partnership
Ambientia was founded in 1996, when the Internet was making its breakthrough. Ambientia was initially known as Ambient Factor, and its initial business idea was to offer customers services from Internet connections to web-service design and construction. From the beginning, our basic company principles have been answering our customer's needs and requirements, an appropriate and controlled growth and a strong desire for product development and quality enhancement. Ambientia's first customers have continued their partnership with us to the present day, which demonstrates Ambientia's commitment improving our customer's business.
As Ambientia's operations grew, the company owners recognised the organisation's core competences and the development possibilities of the industry. Ambientia's resources were directed to develop visual expertise and tailored web services for business customers.
Ambientia's partnerships with companies listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange were the initial corner stones of developing Ambientia's customer base. Since then, the aim has been to even more profoundly understand our customer's business needs and processes. At present, the long-term customer partnerships have proved their value, as they have enabled the company to grow even when the industry itself has seen slow economic growth.
Kotisivutehdas Technology
Part of Ambientia's growth strategy was to merge with Kotisivutehdas ("Home Page Factory"), a technology-based new-media company. The merger took place in 2000, creating Ambientian Ltd. During the same year, Ambientia moved to Hämeenlinna Technology Centre as the centres first customer.
Development in Tampere
In 2004 Ambientia’s business expanded to Tampere as the company opened its second office in the city. At first the office was located in Hermia, near the local university of technology and other educational institutions. Once those facilities became too small, the next step was to move directly to the most central location in Tampere - the Finlayson area. In the beginning of 2008, Ambientia once again moved to reside in larger facilities, this time right next to the Tullintori Shopping Centre, which is located nearby Tampere railway station.
From Opal.net to Ambientia Lab
Ambientia Lab, formerly known as Opaali.net, began to operate in April 2005, lead by project designer Tuuli Aalto. Lab offered its customers high-quality packages mainly for marketing and campaign purposes. Ambientia Lab’s operations ended in the beginning of 2006 as Tuuli Aalto transferred to Ambientia to work as a project manager.
From Codezilla to Ambientia Joensuu
In July 2005, Ambientia Ltd. purchased shares in Codezilla Ltd. Codezilla concentrates on providing programming services as subcontractors for companies in the IT industry. Codezilla specialises in Java and Open Source technologies. As a result of the purchase, Codezilla became the Joensuu office for Ambientia.
Giving in to Helsinki
In autumn 2006 Ambientia finally decided to open an office in Helsinki, where the majority of its customers and a part of the staff had already been located for ten years. The facilities in Pasila were mainly designed to suit the production needs and to reside closer to the customers.
Expanding to Turku
In autumn 2008 the fifth office of Ambientia opened in Turku. Turku office focuses on implementing for its customers web-based information- and service channels which can handle large amounts of traffic, and, additionally, social networking services. Turku office also offers partnerships to advertising agencies in implementing digitised campaigns.
Becoming as a Group
At the end of the year 2008 Ambientia became a group, which started operating with a new structure at the beginning of the year 2009. The group includes the parent company Ambientia Group Ltd and the subsidiaries Ambientia Ltd, Ambientia West Ltd and Codezilla Ltd. The whole group will be held by the old shareholders and will continue functioning under the familiar Ambientia brand.
The Conquest of the Neighboring Country and Changing the Head Office
In 2010 Ambientia became a Liferay Silver Service Partner and IBM Premier Business Partner. At the end of the year there was a move to a new house called Innopark. At the same time, Ambientia decided to conquer the neighbour country Sweden. Sixth office was opened in Stockholm.
