Information About Rehabilitation to the Web

The Rehabilitation Foundation is a diverse centre of expertise and development in the fields of rehabilitation, health and working life. It seeks to enhance the working and functional capacity of the working aged, as well as to develop equal opportunities for people with disabilities in working life and in the social context as a whole.

Information specialist Kirsi Vierula from Rehabilitation Foundation tells that the research and development in the field of rehabilitation has been difficult because of the multidisciplinary and the administrational disintegration.

In November 2008 Rehabilitation Foundation introduced Rehabilitation Portal, which consists information about rehabilitation and the research and development work related to that. The service is aimed for everyone who needs the information about rehabilitation, everyone who does the research and development work, organisations and assosiations and the quarters of reporting and training.

- With the website we can improve the attainment of the research information and best practises. That way we can also intensify the dissemination and applying of the research information, Vierula tells.

The Rehabilitation Portal is implemented on Ambientia Content Manager publication system. An essential part of the project was to build a research database as a customized module to the portal. Some of it's main features arewide search possibilities and an integration to a libarary system.

Before the programming work a clickable mock model was made of the portal. The model was developed in short iterations as long as everyone was pleased to it. After this we continued to the implementation. The visual layout came from a third party but Ambientia made some changes to it. The portal is hosted in Ambientia's server.

The research database has also a newsletter at http://uutiskirje.kuntoutusportti.fi. This was implemented on Ambientia Newsletter Manager.
